Summary

A Lead Foreman supervises a small crew of laborer and equipment operators at construction site when the job schedule demands and reports to the superintendent or a Forman. He ensures that construction workers are doing their job efficiently and that the construction is being carried out as per plan. He also keeps a check on the materials and ensures the safety of the construction site.

This is a “working” lead foreman position where the lead foreman is expected to labor and/or operate along with his crew as necessary.

The Lead Foreman also works with the Superintendent and the other job Foremen to coordinate all site construction activities and supervise all field personnel as required to successfully complete the project on schedule and within budget. This includes maintaining the highest quality, supervising all subcontractors and field personnel, while administering good construction safety practices with all on-site activities. This is a Safety Sensitive Position.

Reporting Relationships:

The Lead Foreman reports to and is accountable to their appropriate Superintendent or Foreman for the project they are working on.

Job Duties and Tasks for Lead Foreman:

  • Ensuring that workers are carrying on work as per schedule
  • Checking on the work schedule with construction superintendent.
  • Allotting responsibilities to workers based on their skills and giving clear orders
  • Ensuring that safety precautions are implemented during construction
  • Enforces all company safety policies and procedures
  • Ensuring quality of work in addition to ensuring schedule
  • Ensuring that rules of the employer are followed
  • Training new workers in different construction works and safety measures
  • Ensuring the safety of tools and equipment used in construction and making sure that they are safely put away after work
  • Motivating crew to work with higher efficiency and ensuring that the work is completed on time
  • Handling any personnel issues with his/her crew and relating those to the Superintendent and Human Resources when necessary.
  • Submits all timesheets and paperwork for crew in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and other employees.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the Foreman is regularly required to talk or hear. The Lead Foreman is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The Lead Foreman is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The Lead Foreman must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of successful construction laborer or operating experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with scheduling, ordering, field supervision, quality control, and
    production of all phases of construction.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent or related experience or training.
